The desire to free oneself from the society is vital for the existence of independent passions. Edna proves herself in the book that she belongs to a life bigger than her's at the moment. Experiencing visual arts and tragic shows are two of the most passionate activity Edna wants to be a part of. Therefore, she seeks to devote herself in a life with these experiences in the novel. The freedom to express oneself is exactly what Edna needs. Her life at the moment is giving her stream of tears. Moreover, without passions, there is nothing to look forward to on any day. Romanticism is art and love for Edna in the novel "The Awakening."
