I think that the news of Edna’s suicide would be a big shock to Robert. I’m still not sure whether what happened between Robert and Edna is real love or not, but there’s one thing I cannot deny: the strong feelings Robert had for Edna and vice versa. Knowing that his endearing woman has passed away would make Robert depressed for a while, and it could be worse as he knows he is one of the main reasons which cause her death. He might ask himself “what if…” over and over again, blame himself for being so irresponsible in their relationship and just left like that. However, in the end, I believe Robert Lebrun will get over this and continue his life. I don’t say that there were nothing between Edna and Robert, but I also know the fact that Robert is quite immature. While Edna’s married and settled, Robert in our story is just a young man who is still finding himself; he is not ready to commit into a serious relationship and also not have the courage to have an affair with a married woman. He is childish and therefore, decided to run away. That’s why I think he can still move on, despite all the regrets of his first serous love story. -Khuyen-
The news about Edna committing a suicide will be a great shock for Robert. He will definitely accuse himself for Edna's death. I believe that Robert's love was pure for Edna. Only the fact that he left Mexico to come back to Edna, proves it. Working in Mexico has been his dream for a very long time and we have seen front the very beginning of the book as he talks about it. Though , I should disagree with Ann's point of Robert being immature. I think Robert's strong love which made him come back to America, stopped him from seeing the reality. When he arrived back home, he felt the pressure of the society. He realized that his fantasies are not to become a reality. He realized that by having an affair with a married woman will cause Edna's and his reputation to fall, and a good reputation those days was a necessity in order to have a peaceful life. He was mature enough to forget about his love for the sake of his love's one. His meeting with Edna was not planned, and was an accident. He met her and went back into the fantasy's of great possibility of him and Edna being together. Having enough time to make up his mind he left Edna's house and her, and not because he did not love her, not because he was not mature, but because he knew the consequences of their relationship developing. Alcée Arobin, for example, did not love Edna and did not even care for her. This is an example of an immature character. He did not care about Edna's reputation and this is why he kept on trying to seduce her. Robert will be in a state of depression for a long time and will accuse himself for Edna's death. He will feel guilty for not standing up for his love, for not being strong enough. In the future , it will be very hard for him to get into relationship with women.
I think Robert will be really sad and start to blame himself about Edna's death because he might think Edna suicide because of that Edna is married so he cannot love her anymore but the important things what he don’t know is Edna’s husband doesn’t love her and she is not happy at all, she want to love the men who really love her not the men just treat her like a slave. I think Robert will be disappointed when he find out that Edna has given up on herself. The entire time, Robert was trying to get together with Edna. He will do whatever it takes and he has shown this by going to Mexico. Because Robert's love for Edna is enormous, he agree to leave Edna since he can't stand the fact that the can't be together. Throughout the relationship of Edna and Robert, they have been loving each other ever since the beginning of the book. To through so much trouble and thinking with one person, then suddenly giving up, it must be disappointing from the perspective of Robert. The main reason for why he is disappointed is that Edna is one of the people which he love most.
I think Robert would be defiantly sad and guilty,but he would continue to work in Mexico. The last time Edna and Robert met he said he worked in Mexico,but all his mind was missing Edna, also he realized he treat Edna different to the other women. Robert likes Edna, but she was a marriaged women, he didnt had courages to maintain the affair. He didn't took Edna went to Mexico, even she told him her love. If he bought Edna went to Mexico with him if as would had a different ending for Edna. It was better if Robert didn't tempt Edna. So she would't went on a wrong way that she couldn't maintain. Robert is smart, he knew everthing, but didn't got the ending of Edna.

He will be sad because he thought Edna loves him, therefor, he thought Edna would wait until he get back home. However, he was wrong, Edna did love him, but she kept making wrong decision and made mistake. Edna blame Robert never send her a latter, but what could Robert do? She is a woman with a husband. After, Edna got tired of thinking about Robert and waiting, she turned out going with another guy, a guy that she doesn't really love but he can satisfied her.
